Conjunto Nuevo Milenio educates the public about the beauty, diversity and richness of Panamanian culture.

The group's motto, "Panama is more than a canal," fuels its desire to showcase the nation's people, folklore and customs through dance performances, workshops, and lectures.

Conjunto consists of dedicated beginner, intermediate, and professional dancers, all with a strong passion and love for Panamanain tradition.

Mission

Conjunto Folklórico Nuevo Milenio is a Panamanian folkloric dance ensemble that performs choreographed versions of the nation’s traditional dances, thus portraying various aspects of Panamanian life. Panama’s people, custom, and influences reach beyond its borders; Panama’s history is a global history.Panamanians have been an established community in the United States, and we continue to grow. As an organization, CNM strives to reach out to other communities and expose them to the beauty of our heritage.

Our Beginnings

Our Beginning

The first choreographed work was at the Panamanian Consulate to commemorate Panamanian involvement in the NY Yankees 1998 World Series in, the group proudly displayed the beauty of Panamanian folkloric dance. As the result of the increased need to publicly recognize Panamanian folkloric visual expressions, the company was founded in 2004, and has continued to perform with the desires to contribute to the overall celebration of Panamanian nationalism and pride on the public stage throughout New York and the United States.Conjunto Nuevo Milenio participates in community activities such as parades, Panamanian Black Heritage Day in Brooklyn, BAC's Folk Feet and Lincoln Center's Out Door; additionally, CNM conducts folk craft workshops and dance classes.

▪ Theatrical Dramatizations with Music and Dance

CNM presents plays and ballets that recreate nostalgic regional traditions of the people of Panama.

Performances include stories about a wedding of the Ocú region, a dance drama of the Afro-Latin legend of Saracúnde, and mini-scenes that highlight everyday Panamanian life in events

such as the pindín party. Please contact us for more details and specific requests.

One- to two-hour dance and music presentations representative of Panama’s diverse regions. Musical

instruments include live musical accompaniment with a vocalist, the traditional drums of Panama,

Conjunto Nuevo Milenio continues to demonstrate the richness of the diversity of our culture. Our success is also thanks to the partnership with: The Brooklyn Arts Council, The Panamanian Civic Committee, Panamanian Folkloric Conference "Encuentros" in the U.S.A., Sociedad Molas de Panama and has collaborated with several Panamanian organizations and other Nationalities as well.Here are some of the highlights of our presentationsAt two Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) Folk Feet at Brooklyn College.With Folk Feet at Lincoln Center Out of Doors program.At Culture Fest 2006, New York City Battery Park.Seven consecutive years, for the Panamanian Civic Committee at the Panamanian Independence Day Celebration at Brooklyn’s Borough Hall.At Hostos Community College by representing “Panamanian Congos” at QUIJOMBO: Cofradia de los Congos hosted by Dominican folkloric dance company Alianza Dominicana.At Encuentros Folkloricos Panameños Panamanian Folk Conferences in Washington, DC, Orlando FL, Norfolk, VA and New York City.Special guests in a Panamanian folkloric showcase at Preston Bailey’s 60th Birthday party celebration.Featured Dance ensemble at Target First Saturdays, at Brooklyn Museum, event sponsored by Target. & Brooklyn Museum, August 1, 2009.Host for the XIII Panamanian Folkloric Conference , New York during August 13—16, 2009. This conference gathered ten Panamanian dance companies from all over the United States and Panama.Representing Panamanian Afro-latino heritage at the Back Brooklyn Renaissance—Blacks Arts + Culture. Hosted by Brooklyn Arts Council at Brooklyn College Whitman Theater, February 2010.

Panamanian Folkloric Conferences "Encuentros Folkloricos" Displayed are only those that CNM have attended.

Conjunto Nuevo Milenio, participates in an annual Panamanian Folkloric Conference, a forum where several groups from all over the continental U.S. and Panama convene to discuss developments and exchange new ideas about Panamanian folklore through seminars, informal discussions, dance workshops, formal presentations, and public performances. This annual conference also enables both veteran and novice participants the opportunity to visit, exchange, and experience the diversity of cultures in various cities throughout the U.S. while simultaneously promoting Panamanian culture, pride, and tradition. On August 13 -16, 2009, Conjunto Nuevo Milenio proudly hosted the thirteenth annual conference while also presenting the beauty, diversity, and uniqueness of New York City like never before. The selection of pictures, captured during CNM participation in these Encuentros. Each page will link to the Host Venue.
